Goudeles, 13th century. Seal (Lead, 32 mm, 16.10 g, 12 h). MHP - ΘV / N/I The Mother of God standing facing, nimbate, on dais on the left. Saint Nicholas, standing facing, nimbate, raising his right hand in benediction and holding a book of Gospels in his right, on the right. Rev. MHP TOV ΘV K[AI] / ΠPOЄΔΡЄ MIPЄ/ⲰN ΓPAΦAC KH/Δ૪T, ΔIKACTI/KⲰC Γ૪ΔЄΛ ("Mother of God, and bishop of Myra - St. Nichalos - take just care of the writings of Goudeles", two 12-syllable verses). Apparently unpublished. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.

Our seal's owner asks the Mother of God and St. Nicholas to take "just" or "lawful" care of his writings. From this peculiar turn of phrase, we may perhaps conclude that Goudeles was a judge.
